In the 1947 electoral register, John and Ruth were living with Ruth's parents at 20 Greatwood Avenue. At number 21 lived his parents James and Alice G and Tommy Mullarkey who married Anne.
I first met John aka JB on a bus from Kildwick to Skipton, he was the bus driver. He waited until I sat down then with the usual Burrows foghorn voice shouted out, young Wassie! I know who thi mother is. I dreaded catching a bus after that and every time he was driving he did the same thing, wait until I sat down then shouted something. As a young teen it was very embarrassing.
John died in 2001 in Skipton.
Harry Burrows
Harry was born in the first quarter in 1926. He lived at Eastgate alongside Springs Canal, the old canal that was built in 1797 by the Earl of Thanet to take stone from his quarry, the canal branched off from the Leeds Liverpool Canal.
It was into the Springs canal where little Harry tripped and fell as a two year old. You can read the newspaper account or the Coroners report here. His elder brother John was with him at the time, he was only aged six himself and was left to keep an eye on him. His mother blamed him for the death which seems a bit unfair.
Anne Burrows
Anne was born 25th February 1927 in Skipton. She lived at home in 1939 and was at school.
Marriage to Thomas Mullarkey in Skipton in 1946. They had three children.
In the 1948 electoral register they were living at 21 Greatwood Avenue, Skipton with Anne's parent's, brother Edward and his wife Doreen.
I used to visit the Mullarkey family with my parents when I was a girl, I used to play with one of the daughters and as she was only a couple of years older I used to come home with some of her clothes that she'd grown out of.
Anne was always full of life, had a great sense of humour. As I got older I would bump into her in pubs. She bought me a champagne flute for my 21st birthday.
Anne died in 1994.
Richard Burrows.
Richard was born 7th February 1929 in Skipton, a twin. He was at school in 1939 and lived with his family.
Marriage to Lilian Middlemiss in 1962. I couldn't find births for any children.

Anthony burrows
Anthony was born 7th February 1929 in Skipton, twin to Richard.
Marriage to Dorothy Inman in 1958 in Skipton. They had three children.
His address was 8 Cromwell St, Skipton.
Anthony was a real character. As was typical of the Burrows family, he had a loud voice and would shout yo-hooo across the main St, in Skipton. At one time I ran a receiving shop in Skipton for a large company and once he found out he used to 'pop in' with his Jack Russell dog, it wouldn't matter if I had a customer, he would interrupt and tell me to get 't'kettle on. I liked Anthony.
Anthony died in 2003.
All the adult Burrows men did their National Service, Dick (Richard) was stationed in Germany.
