Maria Walker

Maria was born in Bradley on 4th August 1812.

There is some confusion as to who her father actually was, she was baptised at Kildwick on 6th September 1812, the entry was as follows:

Walker Mariah parents John and Bella of Bradley weaver. Birth 4.8.1812 christened 6.9.1812. 3rd daughter. mothers maiden name Sargeson.

Marias mother was Bella Sargeson and her father on all of the census returns was William Walker.

The John Walker named as her father may well have been the John who was married to Hannah Vicars but there is no way of knowing. Or William could've had another name and was known as John.....very confusing to say the least.

Maria was living at home in Bradley in 1841 daughter of William and Isabella.

She married Thomas Walker at Kildwick church on 4th January 1843, Unfortunately the record only states the couples names and not the parents names aswell.

In 1851 Maria and Thomas were living in Bradley and had son Aaron aged 8. They went on to have two other children, Caroline and Alfred.

In 1861 the family were living in Bradley and all the children were at home including Sargeson Walker, (see below). Sargeson was born on 31st January 1833 son of Maria a single woman so was illegitmate. He was brought up as the son of William and Isabella and it was after their deaths in 1853 that Sargeson went to live with his natural mother and was recorded as her son. In 1871 the family were still in Bradley.

Maria died in 1881 and was buried at Kildwick on 4th July 1881.
