Military Photographs

I'm a believer in sharing history and that's why I've decided to publish some of the photographs in my possession to allow other people to get enjoyment out of them. Most of them were taken by my grandfather William Henry Wass (Harry) while he was in India. There are photographs of the Himalayas and the Khyber Pass. He was in the 13th/18th Royal Hussars QMO, the Royal Veterinary Corps, in WWII he transferred to the RAF and was also attached to the eighth army during WWII and saw a lot of service in the Middle East, he was in the Suez and there are photographs of the canal.

Below. Granddad. Doing what he loved on the right with horses. He was in charge of the horses.

Below, some award ceremony. Granddad far left. They celebrated and were trying to walk in a straight line later on in proceedings. Following a chalk line on the floor.

Below. Left Road North Western Frontier. Right Rasmak Fort.

Below. Railway and road, Khyber Pass on the border with Afghanistan.

Below. Left Bear Hill. Right 'The Gov'ner's House'.

Description on back of photo just says Himalayas.

Below is Muree Hospital. The construction of the town was started in 1851 high in the hills and the hospital was built as a sanatorium for British Troops garrisoned on the Aghan frontier. It is situated 7,517 feet above sea level, it was a popular residence for British families whose houses were built there, the railway link to Lahore made it accessible for tourists. The mountains that are viewed from the hill are the Kashmir Mountains.

Above and below. Granddad and his brothers in arms. High in the mountains of the Himalayas. He was in North West India near the border with Afghanistan.

The photo below shows a single propeller bi-plane from WWI. After a lot of painstaking research, the only one I could come up with is a Bristol f2 fighter plane.

A bit of down time, playing Polo in India.

Suez war memorial and canal.

Below. German graves in the Libyan Desert

Below. Ruins in Syria.

Below left is a Dutch Cruiser. Right is a German Cargo boat.

Below left, Port Said, Right is a seaplane leaving Port Aiden.

Photo on the left is Malta.

Below, recon in the desert.

The two photo's below are of a Military Funeral.

The above photo is of the Aircraft Carrier Oceana leaving Valetta Harbour in Malta. It was one taken in 1946 by My great uncle Lawrence who served with the Royal Navy. As people will probably know, Malta received the George Cross after the second world war.
